For those who truly appreciate the cutting edge of master craftsmanship — a limited edition 40th anniversary G-SHOCK collaboration watch featuring the stunning techniques of master swordsmith Sadanobu Gassan. Evoking the philosophy of the Japanese sword, the titanium band is crafted by Gassan to resemble a tang. This hidden, but pivotal part of the sword is traditionally marked with a yasuri-me pattern to keep the blade firmly in the handle. Gassan hand-carves the watch band with these marks and with 鍛 and 錬 inscriptions as a symbol of his family’s devotion to swordsmithing. This dedication to detail and excellence imbues each timepiece with a unique presence all its own. Casio introduces its all-new hybrid titanium bezel that evokes the look of the Gassan family’s signature ayasugi-hada patterns. This newly developed titanium is crafted with recrystallized layers of pure and Ti64 titanium, a process overseen by Gassan himself to capture the true beauty of a sword blade’s temper patterns. The blue-gray bezel, band and case back, finished in the most recent addition to Casio color ion plating technology, express the blue-tinged ferrous coloration that is the mark of a finely crafted sword. Recrystallized pure titanium for the case features a distinctive crystallized pattern treated with a deep-layer hardening process and a titanium carbide finish for even greater strength and abrasion resistance. An engraved metal plate commemorating the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary at the 10 o’clock position adds a final touch of edgy styling. This truly special MR-G celebrates both the traditional artisanal techniques and cutting-edge technologies of Japan — all in a singular sword-inspired timepiece.

G-SHOCK, the watch that brought the new concept of toughness to the timepiece.
It began with a reckless challenge to the conventional wisdom of the day, a developer’s belief that it was possible to construct a watch that wouldn’t break, even if dropped. Project Team Tough was formed to build it in 1981.
The team created over 200 prototypes one after another over a period of about two years. They finally arrived at a shock-resistant structure. This marked the birth of a technology that is tough to the core.
And G-SHOCK has continued its unceasing evolution ever since, in pursuit of greater toughness in every respect, from structure and materials to functions. Today, the development team’s passion for challenge and constant efforts have reached fruition in Triple G Resist, a structure with the strength to withstand 3 types of gravitational acceleration.
