The Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT SSK023 packs dual-time functionality into a surprisingly wearable 39.4mm case. The black field-style dial stays highly legible, while the red GMT hand gives you a second time zone at a glance without turning the watch into an oversized travel tool.

Why this watch stands out

The appeal is the combination: automatic movement, GMT functionality, compact proportions and a steel bracelet at $450. Inside is Seiko’s 4R34 automatic movement with manual winding, stop-seconds, approximately 41 hours of power reserve and a 24-hour hand for tracking a second time zone. The see-through screw caseback lets you see the movement in action.

Our take

This is one of the more practical ways into a mechanical GMT. It has enough field-watch character to feel casual, but the multi-link bracelet and silver GMT bezel give it a cleaner, more polished look than a typical tool watch. It works especially well if you want a travel complication without a 42mm-plus case.

Best for

Someone who travels, works across time zones, or simply wants a mechanical GMT that is easy to wear every day. It is also a strong choice if larger GMT watches usually feel like too much watch on the wrist.

Know before you buy

The 39.4mm diameter keeps it compact, but at 13.6mm thick it still has noticeable height on the wrist. The crystal is curved Hardlex rather than sapphire. Water resistance is 100 meters, which is plenty for everyday wear, but this is not positioned as a dedicated dive watch.
