The blue dial on this Surveyor has a sunburst finish that changes character as light crosses it. Bulova sets it inside a sharply faceted steel case, with a magnified date at three o’clock and a simple three-link bracelet. The result has more going on than a conventional dress watch, without crowding the dial.

Why this watch stands out

The 39mm case combines polished and brushed surfaces, giving its edges definition beside the blue dial. A flat sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating protects the face, and the bracelet uses quick-release spring bars if you want to change the look. The minute track is recessed, a small detail that gives the dial a little extra depth.

What does all of this do?

The automatic movement is powered by a spring that winds as you move your wrist, rather than a battery. You can see it through the exhibition window on the back. Once fully wound, its approximately 42-hour power reserve allows the watch to keep running for a time after you take it off. The magnifier over the date makes the small calendar numeral easier to read.
