Enhance your style with some seriously sophisticated timekeeping from the 5000 line. Directly descended from the first-ever G-SHOCK , the GMW-BZ5000 carries on the evolution of function and material in a transformative, unprecedented design. Welcome to a new chapter in full-metal G-SHOCK watches. Tapping into shock-resistance data gathered over 40 years of G-SHOCK testing, we delved into co-creation between human designers and AI to find all-new methods of generative structural and exterior design. We kept the iconic form of the original G-SHOCK, while developing a new structure that extends the case all the way to the lugs to even further mitigate shock transmission. The intricate, modern shape, seen from the side, highlights the design’s structural beauty. An internal protector made of resilient resin temporarily deforms to absorb shocks, achieving a timepiece with a full-metal exterior that meets G-SHOCK shock-resistance standards. The stainless-steel case employs a screw-lock case back to ensure a tight seal. Additionally, to make solar-powered operation possible for the high-definition, full-dot MIP LCD with memory embedded in each pixel — a display commonly used in G-SHOCK sports models — we developed a more energy-efficient version. This new display offers a total of eight different display styles: you can choose from two distinct styles — the easy-read STANDARD and CLASSIC for a traditional 7-segment look — across four display modes. The display employs a high-precision, high-contrast MIP LCD with a wide viewing angle that not only charges from ambient light — sunlight or even fluorescent lamp light — but enables more detailed rendering for outstanding readability even in bright outdoor spaces and direct sunlight. The time mode display layout carries on the look of the first-ever G-SHOCK, with traditional styling taking on advanced functionality. G-SHOCK, the watch that brought the new concept of toughness to the timepiece.
It began with a reckless challenge to the conventional wisdom of the day, a developer’s belief that it was possible to construct a watch that wouldn’t break, even if dropped. Project Team Tough was formed to build it in 1981.
The team created over 200 prototypes one after another over a period of about two years. They finally arrived at a shock-resistant structure. This marked the birth of a technology that is tough to the core.
And G-SHOCK has continued its unceasing evolution ever since, in pursuit of greater toughness in every respect, from structure and materials to functions. Today, the development team’s passion for challenge and constant efforts have reached fruition in Triple G Resist, a structure with the strength to withstand 3 types of gravitational acceleration.
