The dial is the story on this Presage Sharp Edged GMT Special Edition. Its repeating geometric pattern comes from asanoha, a traditional Japanese hemp-leaf motif associated with growth and prosperity. Seiko pairs that crisp pattern with a warm brown dial color called hihada-iro, creating a watch that feels distinctly Japanese without looking like a historical reproduction.

The extra GMT hand tracks a second time zone against a 24-hour scale, making the design useful for travel as well as interesting to study. The automatic 6R64 movement also powers a date display and power-reserve indicator; it can be seen through the caseback and offers approximately 45 hours of power reserve. The angular stainless-steel case has a super-hard coating, with sapphire crystal and 100-meter water resistance.

Our Take

We like the contrast between the precise, modern case edges and the old Japanese pattern on the dial. The second-time-zone hand makes this more than a design exercise: it's a watch with a cultural story and a practical reason to wear it on a trip.
