Black-and-white checks circle the unidirectional bezel, and another checkered ring sits just inside the black dial. This Seiko 5 Sports Special Edition takes a vintage-style checkerboard design and doubles down on it. Black-and-white checks circle the unidirectional bezel, and another checkered ring sits just inside the black dial. Its 42.5 mm stainless-steel case and bracelet house the automatic 4R36 movement, with hand winding, a day-date display and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Luminous hands and markers, curved Hardlex crystal, a see-through caseback and 100-meter water resistance round out the specification.

Our Take

Our favorite part is the second checkerboard ring inside the dial. It's easy to miss at first, then suddenly the whole design clicks. This is a fun choice if you like graphic vintage sports watches but want a modern automatic.
