Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar vs. Sport: Same DNA. Different Instincts.
By Maggie Kessler

Select the compass on the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar and the hands stop telling time. They swing around and become the needle. Ask for a number and they step aside so you can read it. Go back to the time and they return to their usual spots. This is not an analog dial drawn on a screen. These are real hands under a real sapphire crystal, and Tissot has given them a second job.
The T-Touch Connect Sport keeps that touch-sensitive crystal and puts it to work on your workouts instead. It is smaller, thinner and built around heart rate and activity rather than altitude and bearings. Same idea, two different watches.
Pick the Solar if you want a watch that works as an instrument, with a compass, altimeter and barometer.
Pick the Sport if you want a smaller, thinner watch that tracks your workouts and your heart rate.

The Solar: an instrument that tells time
The Solar measures 47.5 mm across and 15.3 mm thick. It is a bold instrument watch, and the titanium case holds it to 92 grams on the black rubber strap.
The instruments are the point. Beyond the compass, an azimuth function lets you hold a bearing. The altimeter and barometer both read air pressure, so a change in the weather can nudge your altitude reading even when you have not moved. Temperature and a weather trend round it out.
Behind those sit the everyday tools: a chronograph with lap, split and a logbook, a second time zone, a perpetual calendar, an alarm and a timer, plus step, distance and calorie counts. A compact digital readout under the hands shows the numbers when a function needs them. Run it by touch or with the crown and pushers, whichever you reach for first.
Where it shines: the outdoors, from the compass to the 100 m water rating. For heart rate and workout tracking, look to the Sport.
The Sport: built for the workout
The Sport is 43.75 mm across and 13.47 mm thick, on 21 mm lugs. It is still titanium with a ceramic bezel and a tactile sapphire crystal, and it still charges from light.
What changes is what the crystal shows. A color AMOLED display and an optical heart-rate sensor put your pulse, speed, pace, distance and calories on the wrist, and it sends move alerts through the day. The T-Connect app adds training zones and, for runs, VO2 max. The hands, the touch controls and the phone notifications all carry over from the Solar.
What it brings: a slimmer case built around workouts, rated to 50 m. The Solar adds the compass, altimeter and barometer, plus 100 m.
Which one fits your wrist
The Sport is 3.75 mm narrower and about 1.8 mm thinner than the Solar. Titanium keeps both lighter than a steel case of the same size. Measure a watch you already wear comfortably, then compare its diameter and thickness with these two.
Straps will not swap between them. The Solar takes a 23 mm strap and the Sport a 21 mm one.
How long the battery lasts
Both watches charge from light, so battery life depends on how much light they see and how much you use them. For the Sport, Tissot's manual gives three scenarios: about 2 months with three activities a week, 6 months paired with no activities, and 1 year with low activity. A full charge from the supplied cable takes about 90 minutes. For the Solar, Tissot quotes months of autonomy.
When light alone is not enough, the Solar charges on its cordless charger in under 4 hours. Eco mode cuts vibration and automatic backlighting to stretch the battery, and the Solar goes to sleep after 2 hours off the wrist. GPS activities draw more battery from the watch and your phone, so charge up before a long run.
What your phone adds
Pair either watch with the T-Connect app and the display shows incoming calls, messages and other supported notifications. It is built for a glance, so calls, messages and supported alerts reach you without pulling out your phone.
The Solar's instruments and timing functions keep working without a phone, and Tissot documents an unpaired mode. Notifications and syncing need the app and a compatible phone. Check Tissot's compatibility list before you buy, because operating-system support changes.
For routes and pace, both watches use your phone's GPS. Switch on location for the T-Connect app and bring your phone along. Neither watch carries its own GPS.
Which one to buy
Choose the Solar if the outdoors is your use: a compass, altimeter and barometer, 100 m of water resistance and a case with real presence.
Choose the Sport if training is your use: heart rate, speed and pace on a color display, in a slimmer case, 3.75 mm narrower and 1.8 mm thinner.
